AWS Certified GenAI Developer (AIP-C01): Exam Overview

What the exam covers

AIP-C01 focuses on applying generative AI in production rather than on training models from scratch. You are expected to choose the right foundation model for a task, ground responses in your own data, and put appropriate safety and cost controls in place.

The questions are scenario-based: you are given a business requirement and asked to pick the most appropriate AWS service or design pattern.

• Selecting and prompting foundation models
• Building retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines
• Applying guardrails and responsible-AI controls
• Orchestrating multi-step tasks with agents
• Evaluating, monitoring, and controlling the cost of generative-AI workloads

Format and scoring

The exam is multiple choice and multiple response, delivered at a test center or via online proctoring. Expect a mix of single-answer questions and questions asking you to select two or more correct options.

There is no penalty for wrong answers, so answer every question. Treat unfamiliar scenarios as a chance to reason from first principles about the AWS service that fits.

How to prepare

Hands-on time in Amazon Bedrock is the single best preparation: invoke a few foundation models, wire up a small RAG flow over a knowledge base, and attach a guardrail. Pair that with timed practice questions to build recall under exam conditions.
